Work based Learning (On the Job Training)

The On the Job Training (OJT) program at T. Dewitt Taylor Middle High School provides students with the opportunity to
acquire and demonstrate various skills, including employability, environmental, health, and safety competencies;
professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities; financial management; leadership; communication; human resources and
labor skills; understanding of America’s economic principles; entrepreneurial principles; and the ability to relate planning
methods to personal and career objectives. An essential element of this program is a paid, supervised on-the-job training
experience. Students may earn up to five (5) OJT credits within a single academic year and have the option to repeat the OJT
experience in subsequent years to accrue additional credits.

Eligibility:
Must be 16 years old.
Be employed and working a minimum of 5 hours per week per OJT class period.
Must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA.
Must have met all state testing requirements (Algebra, Geometry, ELA, Biology, and Social Studies).
Course Requirements:
Completed Student Application
Initial Enrollment Paperwork Completed and Approved.
Monthly Timecards
Meetings with OJT Teacher
Employment Requirements:
Each ½ credit requires 18 weeks of Paid Employment (semester)
Each 1 credit requires 36 weeks of Paid Employment (full year)
Max of FIVE (5) class periods
5 work hours/week per OJT period.
Ex: If you have 5 OJT periods, you will need to work at least 25 hours per week.
W-2 Employee (on the payroll) with taxes deducted
Student covered by Workers’ Compensation and Liability Insurance policies
