UPDATED VCS Graduation Health and Safety Protocols

July 2, 2020

DELAND – Graduation ceremonies for Volusia County Schools Class of 2020 will be held at the Ocean Center July 9-11.  Due to social distancing requirements, and the facility capacity outlined by the Ocean Center, tickets will be limited to two per graduate.  Individuals considered high risk or who are displaying fever-like or flu-like symptoms should remain at home.  Each of the graduations will be live-streamed for those who cannot be in attendance.

The Ocean Center will increase cleaning of restrooms and public areas, in addition to placing sanitation stations throughout public areas.  Between rehearsals and ceremonies, the arena and exhibit hall will be sanitized, to include seats and the stage.  Restrooms will be monitored to ensure social distancing.

For students and guests, the following health and safety protocols have been established as preventative measures:

Graduation Rehearsal Protocols

  • Face coverings (masks) are required due to city ordinance – students, guests and staff members should bring their own masks
  • Six feet sections will be marked in the Exhibit Hall to help students understand what six feet looks like
  • Students will check-in, have their temperature taken by school staff and report directly to their designated line
  • Students will stand on or by the markers and remain six feet from each other
  • To comply with the six-foot spacing, handshaking and hugs should not occur
  • When rehearsals conclude, graduates must leave immediately to avoid crowd gatherings
